Barnes: ‘We must foster economic development beyond metro Atlanta’
ATLANTA — Gubernatorial hopeful Roy Barnes rolled out a plan he says will “strengthen rural economic development” and “put Georgians back to work.”
“In order to revive our economy and put Georgians back to work, we must foster economic development beyond metro Atlanta,” Barnes, a Democrat, said in a statement.
The plan includes a “focus on value-added agriculture,” supporting a “Buy Georgia First” campaign and expanding the “Georgia Grown” initiative.

Barnes is facing off against former U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, a Republican, and John Monds, a Libertarian, in November’s election.
