McKoon: Lower age requirement for Ga. Senate from 25 to 21

ATLANTA — State Sen. Josh McKoon, R-Columbus, said he is panning to propose an amendment to the Georgia constitution that would lower the required minimum age to serve as a Georgia State Senator from 25 to 21.

“By the time someone is 21, we’ve asked them to serve in our military. They’re qualified to serve on a jury. They are old enough to vote. They’ve become an adult,” McKoon said in a statement. “Having had the opportunity to work with many young people down here at the legislature, I think that they bring passion, enthusiasm, idealism and a willingness to do things that we’re told ‘can’t be done’. I think those are all qualities that make for a good public servant.”
