Old Dominion Safety Compliance Director Honored as North Carolina’s ‘Safety Director of the Year’

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (July 28, 2010) — Sam Faucette, director of safety compliance, training and recruiting for Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., was awarded the North Carolina Trucking Association’s ‘Safety Director of the Year’ Award for 2010.

The announcement was made July 24 during the North Carolina Trucking Association’s Annual Safety Conference in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Faucette has 30 years of experience in the transportation industry. He joined Old Dominion as a field safety supervisor in October 2002. He was promoted to manager of safety compliance and training before taking on his current position as director.

“Our company is only as good as the people we hire, and with someone like Sam, it’s easier to keep every promise that we make,” said Brian J. Stoddard, Old Dominion’s vice president – safety and personnel. “We’re excited to congratulate Sam on this honor.”

Before joining Old Dominion, Faucette began his career as a mechanic at Burlington Industries and rose through the ranks to become their best driver trainer.

In addition to his work at Old Dominion, Faucette has served on the North Carolina Trucking Association Safety Council where he has held a number of officer positions, including secretary, treasurer and vice chairman. He recently completed his term as chairman of the North Carolina Safety Management Council.
