Old Dominion Named to Inbound Logistics Magazine’s 50 Green Supply Chain Partners (G50) List

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (June 10, 2010) – Inbound Logistics has named Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. to its annual 50 Green Supply Chain Partners (G50) list. The magazine’s editors chose 50 companies in several categories of logistics service providers – including 3PLs, truckers, ports and forklifts – that they determined are truly “walking the walk” when it comes to commitment to supply chain sustainability. The publication features the G50 list in its June issue.

“As a company, we take our commitment to the environment seriously, and we are honored to be recognized as part of this year’s G50 list,” said David Congdon, Old Dominion’s president and CEO. “But, our work is not done, and we’ve made a promise as a company and to our customers that we will continue to work to find solutions that are right for both our business and the environment.”

In recent years, Old Dominion has implemented a number of green measures in all of its 31 fleet shops and 210 service centers located in the lower 48 states. The measures include the use of drive-through truck washers with custom-built oil-water separators. Additionally, Old Dominion has an idle shut down timer on every tractor that turns off the engine after three minutes of idling to eliminate excess emissions. Old Dominion also contracts with licensed companies to pick up and recycle waste oil, filters and antifreeze; uses energy-efficient lighting and HVAC units; and has eliminated the use of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerants.

In addition, Old Dominion is a partner with the Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program. SmartWay is collaboration between the EPA and the freight sector designed to improve energy efficiency and energy security while reducing greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. Earlier this year, Fleet Equipment magazine and Citgo Petroleum Corp. honored Old Dominion as the Top Green Shop for 2009.
