Former Gwinnett commissioner says Gwinnett less corrupt than others

Charges of corruption continue to ring through Metro Atlanta.

Former Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter says corruption is nothing new and that it is everywhere, according to a news report. She would know.

Lasseter in 2012 pleaded pleaded guilty to federal charges that she accepted bribes in exchange for her support for a proposed real estate development in her district, according to the feds. She was sentenced to 33 months in prison and released in May.

“I just don’t see it as a culture of corruption. This is something that has gone on for years and years, unfortunately, in DeKalb, in Fulton, in Gwinnett,” WSB-TV quoted Lasseter as saying, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I think the corruption is not that bad in Gwinnett, as you look over in the other counties, I really don’t.”
