(SmyrnaVinings.News) — More than 2 million Georgians have voted early in person, surpassing the total recorded during the entire 2022 early voting period, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office.
Why it matters: Georgia continues to see record-breaking early in-person turnout, although overall turnout remains in line with 2022 levels at the same point in the election cycle.
By the numbers: As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, 2,000,452 Georgians had cast ballots in person, a 22% increase from the 1,640,652 early in-person ballots cast over 15 days in 2022.
Another 97,382 absentee ballots have been accepted, bringing combined turnout to 28% of registered voters. That matches the turnout rate recorded seven days before Election Day in 2022.
What they’re saying: “Georgia voters deserve the highest praise,” Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said. “They are shattering in-person turnout records because they trust our election process.”
The bottom line: With seven days remaining until Election Day, Georgia’s early in-person voting has already exceeded its 2022 total, while overall turnout is tracking at the same pace as the previous midterm election.
