SMYRNA, Ga. — Travis Lindley and Maryline Blackburn will face off in a Dec. 5 runoff in the Post 3 race.

Lindley picked up nearly 32.2 percent of the vote, but below the 50 percent threshold needed to avoid the runoff. Blackburn garnered nearly 28.8 percent of the vote in the five-person race.

The winner replaces Teri Anulewicz, who resigned last month to run for the open state House, District 42 seat as a Democrat. Stacey Evans, D-Smyrna, vacated the seat to run for governor.

Anulewicz, who was elected to the city council in 2007, is running unopposed for the House seat.

Elsewhere in the region, the Atlanta mayoral race is also headed to a runoff.
