Piedmont investigating deadly bacteria in the NICU

Officials at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital are investigating whether a possible outbreak of Serratia resulted in the death of one infant in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and whether more could be affected, according to sources.

The investigation apparently launched last week. However, hospital officials did not inform the parents of the child who died that an inquiry was started.

So far, according to a source, no changes have been made. It is not clear how long the investigation will take and whether the results will be made public.
