CHICAGO — The good news is the number of people shot so far this year in Chicago is down nearly 8.5 percent compared to a year ago.
The bad news is 2,112 people have been shot in The Windy City so far in 2017, according to a Chicago Tribune database.
To date in 2017, there have been 394 homicides in the city, the Chicago Tribune reported. The city saw a total of 787 homicides in 2016.
If the current pace keeps up, the city could see about 705 murders this year, which would be about a 10 percent decline from last year.
A total of 84 people were killed in June, according to the newspaper. Another 60 people have been killed so far in July.
According to stats published by the newspaper, violent, property and quality of life crimes have actually trended downward since 2001 somewhat contradicting the glut of news headlines about crime in the city.
