Widening of U.S. Highway 41 in Cobb to be finished by 2017

Just in time for the new Atlanta Braves stadium! And, all that traffic!

A project to widen U.S. Highway 41 between Northgate Drive in Fulton County and Paces Mill Road in Cobb County should be completed by next year, according to a Cobb County commissioner.

The project will widen U.S. Highway 41 to three lanes in each direction and add turn lanes and medians, according to an email from the office of Commissioner Bob Ott. The project also includes a multi-use trail throughout the corridor, bridging the regional trail connections between communities west of Cobb County and the city of Atlanta.

As a part of the project, crews also replaced a 1935 bridge over the Chattahoochee River. The bridge was one of the first four-lane divided highways in Georgia.

The new six lanes are separated by a raised median with a 12-foot-wide multi-use trail on the east side of the bridge and a 5-ft sidewalk on the west.  The multi-use trail has also improved access to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Palisades Trailhead at Paces Mill.
