Atlanta Chief Bicycle Officer Becky Katz to Address BBA

ATLANTA — Chief Bicycle Officer Becky Katz will address the Buckhead Business Association (BBA) at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Katz joined the administration of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed in October 2015. In her role, she is responsible for a wide range of activities related to bicycle transportation, including planning bicycle projects, public outreach, grant writing and the implementation of the city’s bike share program.

Her appearance should be particularly noteworthy in Buckhead given a December decision by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GCOT) to scrap a proposal to add bike lanes along Peachtree Street from Deering Road to Pharr Road.

“Her leadership in this area will help us promote cycling in the city, and build on the mayor’s commitment to achieve national recognition as a bicycle friendly city,” Tim Keane, commissioner for the Department of Planning and Community Development, said in October.

The following week, Georgia State University President Dr. Mark Becker will give the keynote address during the BBA’s Annual Luncheon. During the luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, at Flourish Atlanta, the civic organization will also honor local businesses for their roles in transforming the Buckhead community.

The business organization holds breakfast meetings at 7:30 a.m. most Thursday mornings at the City Club of Buckhead. Meetings feature a business, political or civic leader as a speaker, and topics usually include leading issues within the Buckhead community and Atlanta as a whole. Tickets for members are $10 in advance and $12 at the door; non-member tickets are $20.
