Georgia lawmaker wants special license plates for women veterans

ATLANTA – A Georgia state lawmaker wants to create special license plates to recognize women veterans in Georgia.

State Rep. Sandra Scott, D-Rex, recently pre-filed House Bill 717 to create distinct license plates for any former female member of the armed forces of the United States. The measure will be considered when the state legislature reconvenes later this month.

“As the only female veteran in the Georgia General Assembly, I am honored to sponsor HB 717,” Scott said in a news release. “There are 10 states that currently honor female veterans with a license plate, and I would like to see Georgia join that list. We have 91,830 female veterans in this state, and this small gesture is a way our state can recognize, honor and, most importantly, thank them for their service.”

Under current state law, individuals are eligible for military tags if they are a veteran, have received a military medal award or have served during active military combat. The license plate options include more than 150 options for the five branches of service, conflicts, and honors.
