Famed OK Cafe in Atlanta reopens following December fire

ATLANTA — The famous OK Café reopened this week, 10 months after it was severely damaged in a fire, according to media reports.

The establishment shuttered following a Dec. 6, 2014, fire. The restaurant was delayed because of what the owner said was onerous demands from the city of Atlanta.

“I know a lot of people have been waiting a long time for us to reopen and 95 percent of the staff has returned. So it’s like a homecoming,” WGCL-TV quoted cashier and hostess Carey Dozier as saying.

The restaurant first opened in 1987. Earlier this year, a state legislator demanded a Confederate flag inside the eatery be removed when the restaurant re-opened.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the flag is on display in the refurbished restaurant.
