Biloxi shuts out Chattanooga 2-0 in Southern League championship series

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Tyler Wagner tossed 6.2 innings of six-hit ball and struck eight to help lead the Biloxi Shuckers to a 2-0 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Southern League championship series.

Before a crowd of 1,783 at AT&T Park in downtown Chattanooga on Saturday, Biloxi jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first on a Michael Reed sacrifice fly that scored Yadiel Rivera from third. The visiting Shuckers added a second run in the fifth.

Yhonathan Barrios pitched 2.1 innings, giving up a pair of hits and striking out two to pick up the save.

Rivera finished the afternoon going three for four and was hit by a pitch in the top of the sixth inning that led to the ejection of Lookouts manager Doug Mientkiewicz. After appealing the call, Mientkiewicz returned to the dougout, but continued barking at the home plate umpire, who ultimately tossed him from the game.

With the win, Biloxi holds a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. The Shuckers could clinch a series victory at Chattanooga on Sunday.

The Lookouts are looking for their first Southern League championship since 1988. Jacksonville swept Chattanooga in the championship last year.
