Berry to host first game in new football stadium

Berry College will host the first-even football game in the school’s stadium on Saturday, hosting in-state foe LaGrange College.

The inaugural event at Valhalla is a sellout. However, the college has announced that blankets and folding chairs will be allowed for this game only.

LaGrange holds a 1-0 series lead, winning 28-27 in double overtime last year. However, Berry did defeat the LaGrage JV squad in 2013.

Last year for Berry, Dale Jackson threw for over 270 yards and had 4 touchdown passes. Jalen Tuggle had 75 yards on the ground and Chris Lilly had 141 receiving yards. LaGrangewas led by quarterback Graham Craig and his 380 passing yards. After regulation and one overtime wasn’t enough, Berry came up short on a two-point conversion try to win.

Last week, the Vikings fell on the road at Maryville, 43-17.

Dale Jackson completed 19-of-40 passes for 146 yards for BC. He tossed two interceptions, but also completed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Chris Lilly (8 catches, 83 yards) in the third quarter.

Backup QB Tate Adcock teamed with Terrell Blakesleay for a 26-yard score in the final period for BC. On defense for the Vikings, Evan Breakspear collected eight tackles–including five solo stops–and two tackles for losses.

At Birmingham-Southern last week, LaGrange‘s fell 29-28.

Junior Josh Hardrick caught three touchdown passes from sophomore Connor Blair, who was making his first start at quarterback. Hardrick tied the school record for touchdown receptions in a game. He finished with eight catches for 90 yards.
