Atlanta voters approve bonds for road, community improvements

ATLANTA — City voters on Tuesday approved a pair of bond initiatives that will raise $250 million for infrastructure and facilities repairs.

A $188 million bond will raise money for road projects while a $64 million bond will support improvements to municipal buildings and recreational centers.

The two measures passed with roughly 90 percent of voters casting ballots in favor of the bonds.

Among the more than 225 projects included in package is a $35 million initiative to synchronize traffic lights throughout the city. The package also includes money for assorted road repairs, bridge upgrades and bike lane additions.

If approved, the city would also raze the infamous Bridge to Nowhere. The former road bridge is today best known as serving as a location for a homeless camp.
