Georgia Senate wants Congress to move on Fair Tax

ATLANTA — The Georgia State Senate passed a measure that would urge the U.S. Congress to enact the Fair Tax.
Senate Resolution 350 by a 37-18 margin. The resolution now moves to the Georgia House of Representatives for consideration.
“Our federal tax code is a burden on families and a drain on small businesses,” state Sen. Judson Hill, R-Marietta, said in a statement. “While overhauling the American tax system is no easy feat, the economic need for a more simple and fair tax code has never been greater.”
The measure urges Congress to repeal the Sixteenth Amendment and replace the tax code with the Fair Tax, a tax on retail sales. Georgia has both a sales tax and an income tax.
U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall, R-Ga., is a sponsor of the Fair Tax measure in Congress. More than 50 members of the U.S. House have signed on as co-sponsors.
