Georgia State Basketball: Panthers Set for Exhibition Opener with Georgia College Monday

ATLANTA — Following four weeks of practice, Georgia State will open the exhibition portion of the 2014-15 schedule on Monday night facing Georgia College in the GSU Sports Arena at 7 p.m. Head coach Ron Hunter welcomes back three starters from a squad that won 25 games and the Sun Belt regular season championship last season.

Monday’s contest can be heard live on 1340 The Fan 3 with Dave Cohen, now in his 32nd year as the Voice of the Panthers, being joined by former Panther Rodney “Truck” Turner and 680 The Fan’s Brandon Leak. Live statistics and live audio will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com and on most mobile devices. PantherVision HD will be available for free for both exhibition games.

The game on Monday will mark the first of two exhibition games for the Panthers as they prepare to open the regular season on Nov. 14 against Tennessee Temple in the Sports Arena. That will mark Georgia State’s only home game during the month of November.

“I am looking forward to this first exhibition game,” Hunter said. “We have had some great practices in the last few weeks, along with several scrimmages, but it is time to face someone besides ourselves.”

Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year R.J. Hunter returns to the starting line-up along with senior Ryan Harrow, an All-Sun Belt Preseason first-team member and senior Curtis Washington, a third-team member. They are expected to be joined in the starting line-up by junior-transfer Kevin Ware along with junior Markus Crider.

“Despite some injuries this fall, I think our guys have been able to develop some chemistry on the court that will help as games get underway,” Hunter said. “The games in Costa Rica definitely helped build chemistry and with four weeks of spirited practice, I feel like we are in great shape heading into the season.”
