MACON, Ga. – Mercer University freshman Chandler Curtis has been named the Sports Network FCS Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, after racking up 154 return yards and a touchdown in the Bears’ 21-18 loss to defending Southern Conference champion Samford.
Curtis, who was named the Southern Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week earlier today, had Mercer’s play of the game, returning a punt 99 yards for a touchdown in the closing minute to help pull the Bears within three points. He finished the game with a career-high 232 all-purpose yards, which also included 78 receiving yards on three receptions.
The Calhoun, Ga. native leads the FCS with three return touchdowns this season, while also ranking eighth in the nation with a kick return average of 30.6 yards. Curtis tops Mercer with 11 plays of 20 yards or more and is second on the team with seven total touchdowns.
The Bears hosts Austin Peay at Mercer University Stadium this Saturday, October 11. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
