SunTrust purchases naming rights for new Atlanta Braves stadium

The new Atlanta Braves stadium will be named SunTrust Park after the Atlanta-based bank bought the naming rights.

The 25-year agreement includes marquee signage for SunTrust as well as other promotional opportunities throughout the ballpark and adjacent mixed-use complex. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The Braves today officially broke ground on the new stadium in Cobb County, though construction on the site has been ongoing for months. The Braves are moving to the new stadium for the 2017 season.

“The new ballpark constitutes a new chapter in Atlanta Braves baseball, and we are excited that SunTrust has decided to build upon our decades-long relationship and embark on this journey with us,” Atlanta Braves Chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk said in a news release. “Both of our organizations have deep roots in Atlanta and loyal fans throughout the Southeast and across the nation. We couldn’t imagine a more perfect partner and look forward to seeing the first pitch at SunTrust Park in 2017.”

Braves officials say the new stadium will be the first of its kind, combining a state-of-the-art Major League Baseball ballpark and a simultaneously constructed multi-use community that is slated to include unique shops, restaurants, offices and residences.
