Shorter football: ‘Hawk Talk’ premiers Saturday morning on 99.5 The Jock

ROME, Ga. — The first installment of “Hawk Talk”, a 30-minute show featuring Shorter University, will make its inaugural debut Saturday morning at 8 a.m. when it airs on 99.5 The Jock FM and WGJK-AM 1360 that will be the home and carry all of the Hawks’ football games this season.

Hosted by The Jock sports director Kevin Karel, the show will include interviews with students, faculty and staff representing every facet of Shorter as well as updates on the many events and activities taking place throughout the year.

The first show of “Hawk Talk” features a two-part interview with Shorter President Dr. Donald V. Dowless, who will talk about a number of topics including the acquisition of the Thornwood property, the mission trips taken by sports teams to other countries and the overall strategic plan for the university.

Dr. Dowless will also address Shorter’s move toward becoming an full NCAA Division II and Gulf South Conference member, the purpose of social clubs and drawing students to Shorter, how to use the growing number of private Christian high schools across North Georgia to enhance recruitment for Shorter, the prestigious Alpha Chi honor society and the future of Shorter.

Capping off the show will be a brief interview with head football coach Phil Jones as the Hawks approach their season opener next Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. against Paine College at Barron Stadium as he discusses how excited his players and coaching staff are about kicking off the new season, the 10 th in the program’s history.
