Georgia troopers urge motorists to be safe this Labor Day

Georgia state troopers are urging motorists to be safe on the state’s roads this Labor Day.

“Troopers will be out actively looking for impaired and unsafe drivers this holiday weekend,” Col. Mark W. McDonough, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, said in a news release.

“Our goal is to make holiday travel as safe as possible,” McDonough added. “Troopers will be on concentrated and high visibility patrols watching for those who are driving impaired or distracted, not wearing seat belts, and other traffic violations that could potentially cause a traffic crash.”

Georgia State Patrol troopers reported 650 traffic crashes with a total of 338 injuries and 10 fatalities during last year’s Labor Day holiday. Troopers also arrested 283 people for drunken driving, issued 8,604 citations and handed out 15,208 warnings.
