Georgia State Basketball: Former Panther White Signs Pro Contract in Hungary

ATLANTA — After finishing his career as one of the best players in Georgia State history, Devonta White has signed a contract to continue to play basketball professionally in Hungary.

White will start his professional career in September for the PVSK Panthers in Pecs. The team competes in Division A of the Eurobasket League.

White was a four-year star for the Panthers, earning All-Sun Belt Third Team honors as a senior. He finished his career with 1,393 points, third most in program history. He dished out 414 assists during his career, also the third most in the GSU history book.

He played in 119 games, making 102 starts after coming to Georgia State from nearby Alpharetta, Ga. White also finished his career among the top 10 in free throws, free throw percentage and 3-point attempts.

As a senior, he led the Panthers to a 25-9 mark, Sun Belt Championship and appearance in the Postseason NIT.

“I would like to thank everyone at Georgia State for helping me reach my goal,” White said. “The coaches, administration, staff and fans made my time in Atlanta a great one and I will always be proud to be a Panther.”

“I am proud of what Devonta accomplished in his time at Georgia State and wish him all the best of luck playing basketball professionally,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “Devonta was a great player for us and always gave 100-percent on the court. I have no doubt that he will continue to play with that passion and have a successful career at the next level.”

White finished his career as a part of 73 wins, tied for the third most in GSU history. Included in that total were the two longest winning streaks in program history, a 14-game winning streak during his senior season and an 11-game winning streak during his sophomore campaign.

He will leave Atlanta on Saturday to head to Hungary to report on Sept. 1.

White joins a growing list of former Panthers now playing professional basketball around the world and second already this summer, following Manny Atkins who signed with a club in Argentina earlier this month. A minimum of 10 former players are expected to be playing around the globe this fall.
