Georgia State Basketball: Panthers Report, Open Summer Work-out Session

ATLANTA — Coming off a Sun Belt Championship, Georgia State head coach Ron Hunter welcomed the Panthers back to campus on Monday for the first day of practice and workouts. It coincides with the first day of summer classes at Georgia State.

Hunter welcomed back three starters, including All-Sun Belt First Team members Ryan Harrow and R.J. Hunter, along with senior Curtis Washington. The group is also joined by seven newcomers, including Louisville-transfer Kevin Ware, Indiana-transfer Jeremy Hollowell and JUCO-transfer Jalen Brown.

“It was great to be back out on the court this morning,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “It feels like just yesterday that last season ended, but a lot of work has been put in by the players and coaches since that time to prepare for today.

“Last year is now behind us and we are fully committed to being ready to defend our championship. The returners are hungry to get ourselves back in position to win another championship and the newcomers want to taste that same success. I can already see that they are going to be a great group and I look forward to working with them.”

Along with the three transfers, Hunter got to see freshman Jeff Thomas and Jordan Session on the court for the first time, along with a pair of walk-on freshman, Corey Tobin and Carter Cagle.

“We were fortunate to bring in a very talented group of young men,” Hunter said. “Everyone knows that they are going to have to work hard to earn playing time. That process started today.”

Per NCAA rules, the team will continue to practice throughout the summer. Practice will culminate with a trip to Costa Rica in August where the team will play four games and also distribute shoes and hope with Samaritan’s Feet.
