Georgia man faces June 17 execution

A Cobb County Superior Court judge has ordered the execution of condemned murderer Marcus A. Wellons.

Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens set the execution for 7 p.m. on June 17 at the Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison in Jackson. The judge ordered the Georgia Department of Corrections to carry out the execution between June 17 and June 24.

Wellons was sentenced to death for the August 1989 murder of 15-year-old India Roberts in Cobb County. If executed, Wellons will be the 32nd inmate put to death by lethal injection.
