Georgia State Football: Panthers Conclude Spring Practice with All Blue All In Day at Panthersville

ATLANTA – Georgia State concludes spring practice with a final scrimmage Saturday at 11 a.m. as the centerpiece of GSU’s All Blue All In Day at Panthersville.

In addition to the football scrimmage, All Blue All In Day features food trucks, family entertainment and giveaways as well as Georgia State baseball, softball and soccer games, all at the Panthersville complex just east of the GSU campus.

Head coach Trent Miles, preparing for his second season at GSU, hopes that fans will enjoy the festive atmosphere and take advantage of the opportunity to watch not only football but also baseball, softball and soccer.

“It will be a great day to be a Panther,” Miles said.

The football scrimmage will run from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex, with a team autograph session to follow. Food trucks and activities for fans of all ages will be available in the same area beginning at 11 a.m.

Admission to the football scrimmage and soccer exhibitions (1 and 4 p.m.) is free, while a special $3 ticket provides admission to the baseball game (2 p.m. vs. UT Arlington) and softball doubleheader (1 p.m. vs. Texas State). Parking is free.

“We are a little thin in numbers in some areas and our top priority is to keep everyone healthy, so we will scrimmage a little bit and get our work done, but we will also have some fun drills and skills competitions,” Miles said of his team’s final session of the spring.

The quarterback position continues to be a work in progress for the Panthers with junior college transfer Nick Arbuckle competing with returning starter Ronnie Bell, as well as returnees Ben McLane and Clay Chastain.

The wide receiver corps has a large void to fill with the graduation of All-American Albert Wilson, but sophomore Robert Davis and senior Lynquez Blair have enjoyed good springs. Miles noted that Blair, the senior from Swainsboro, Ga., has performed as well as any player on the team this spring.

The Panthers have worked this spring to rebuild their offensive line with three new junior college transfers in tackles Michael Ivory and Steve Wolgamott and center Taylor Evans, as well as true freshman Alex Stoehr at guard, all competing for starting berths.

Defensively, the linebacker tandem of returning all-conference performer Joseph Peterson and converted fullback Sean Jeppesen have taken the lead, while young standouts like Mackendy Cheridor at outside linebacker and Shawayne Lawrence at defensive end continue to progress.

“We’ve put a lot of emphasis on working on fundamentals and techniques this spring, and we’ve improved in every area. We’re bigger and stronger, and we’re a more physical football team,” Miles said.

The Panthers open the season by hosting Abilene Christian on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the Georgia Dome in the first FBS game of the 2014 campaign. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
