Ga. Southern to play Georgia, West Virginia in 2015

Georgia Southern will travel to Georgia and West Virginia and welcome The Citadel and Western Michigan during the 2015 season, the school announced this week.

The Eagles are also schedule to play Kent State at home and in Kent, Ohio, in 2018 and 2019.

Georgia Southern is set to open its 2015 season at West Virginia on Sept. 5. The contest marks the Eagles’ first-ever matchup against a Big 12 school.

“As we plan for our future, we continue to review and determine the best scheduling scenarios for our program,” gseagles.com quoted Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein as saying. “More opportunities are available to Georgia Southern and we’re involved in more conversations now that we have the advantage of an expanded network and our new league affiliation.”

Georgia Southern this year is playing its first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision’s Sun Belt Conference. The Eagles open their 2014 campaign on Aug. 30 at N.C. State.
