Ga. Supreme Court upholds murder conviction, life sentence in Fayette stabbing death

ATLANTA — The Georgia Supreme Court of Georgia has upheld the murder conviction and life prison sentence without the possibility of parole given to a Fayette County man who stabbed his wife to death in front of their three young sons.

In September 2012, Jesus Ojeda Jimenez was convicted of murder, cruelty to children and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and he was sentenced to life without parole plus 40 years in prison. His only argument on appeal was that the evidence was insufficient to support the verdict.

But in a unanimous opinion, written by Justice Harold Melton, the high court has rejected his argument. “The evidence was sufficient to enable a rational trier of fact to find Jimenez guilty of all of the crimes of which he was convicted beyond a reasonable doubt,” the opinion says.
