Virginia State football players beat up Winston-Salem State quarterback

Five Virginia State football players apparently beat up Rudy Johnson, Winston-Salem State University’s starting quarterback, during a luncheon, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.

The two teams are slated to play in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s 2013 CIAA Football Championship Game, scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow. Virginia State won the conference’s Northern Division while Winston-Salem State University won the Southern Division.

“We understand that some Virginia State University and Winston-Salem State University student-athletes were involved in an incident during the time of today’s luncheon event,” Jacqie Carpenter, commissioner of the CIAA, said in a statement

“The police are currently investigating the incident and are specking with the individuals involved,” Carpenter said. “Leadership from the CIAA and the participating institutions are fully cooperating. Further details and updates regarding the status of the championship game will be forthcoming.”
