Coin Toss Determines Virginia State University as Home Team for the 2013 CIAA Football Championship

HAMPTON, Va. — The 2013 CIAA Football Championship Game is set to kick-off this Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. between the Northern Division Champions, Virginia State University, and the Southern Division Champions, Winston-Salem State University.

With both Division Champions having identical divisional and common opponent records with no head-to-head competition this season, the home team designation, as agreed upon by the CIAA Football Committee, was decided by a coin toss. On Nov. 11, Peggy Davis, VSU director of athletics, and William Hayes, WSSU director of athletics, convened for the coin toss executed by Charles Bartlett, CIAA coordinator of football officials.

It was determined that Virginia State University will be designated as the home team and Winston-Salem State University will be designated as the visiting team. The following provisions were agreed upon by the participating schools:

  • WSSU will retain use of its home locker room.
  • VSU reserve seating will be on the home side of the stadium.
  • WSSU will wear white uniforms.

“We celebrate the hard work of all the student-athletes and the commitment of the administration, staff and coaches in preparation for the 2013 Championship, and look forward to an exciting game-day,” said Commissioner Jacqie Carpenter.
