Washington knocks off Berry, 44-7

Zach Lonneman rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown and Eric Daginella threw for 127 yards and a touchdown to propel Washington University (3-2) to victory over Berry College (1-4) by a 44-7 margin before a crowd of 786 at Francis Field.

After a scoreless first quarter, Washington’s offense notched a pair of rushing touchdowns — one from three yards out and another from 13 — in the second quarter while the Bears’ defense contributed a safety to the cause to take a 16-0 lead into halftime.

Down 44-0, Berry’s Dale Jackson, making his first start of the season, connected with Will Chomskis with 5:14 remaining in the fourth quarter to put the Vikings on the board. In all, Jackson completed nine of 14 passes for 113 yards and the touchdown; Jonathan Lewis led the ground game for Berry with 43 rushing yards on 12 carries.
