ATLANTA — Virginia Tech benefited from three Georgia Tech turnovers in a prime-time showdown of Atlantic Coast Conference powerhouses.
Virginia Tech forced a total of three turnovers in the victory and picked up an early touchdown off a fumble en route to a 17-10 victory. Later in the quarter, the Hokies intercepted Georgia Tech quarterback Vad Lee on their own 29 yard line to sop a Tech drive.
The much-hyped game was so important because the winner has represented the Coastal Division in the ACC championship seven of the last eight seasons.
The Hokies held Georgia Tech’s vaunted triple-option running game in check, limiting the Yellow Jackets to just 129 yards.
