Mica grills TSA over continued mismanagement

The Transportation Security Administration is continuing its pattern of fear mongering and continued mismanagement, U.S. Rep. John L. Mica, R-Fla., charged.

TSA continues to mismanage its finances as attention was directed toward the purchase of $50 million worth of uniforms while facing sequestration, Mica and other House Republicans said. Adding insult to injury, two-thirds of the $50 million contract for the new uniforms is Mexican sourced.

“The uniform contract was a sweetheart union deal that could cost the American taxpayer $1,000 per screener. By comparison, a combat Marine Lieutenant receives a one-time uniform allowance of $400,” Mica said. “This is unacceptable.”

A series of oversight hearings were announced pertaining to TSA that will be held by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, National Security Subcommittee and Government Operations Subcommittee. Mica expects answers, promising to go down and sit in Administrator Pistole’s office if necessary.
