Republicans vow to fight executive order on gun control

Vice President Joe Biden’s suggestion that President Obama might use an executive order to impose gun control drew a strong rebuke, as expected, from many Republicans.

“The President is going to act,” Biden said Wednesday. “There are executive orders — executive action that can be taken. We haven’t decided what that is yet. But we’re compiling it all with the help of the Attorney General and all the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action, we believe is required.”

Obama is expected to unveil his plans on Tuesday.

“The President should not be able to act unilaterally when it comes to our Constitutional rights,” U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., said in a statement. “Executive Orders were meant as a way for the president to implement legislatively passed laws, not to make law.

“I will use every means at my disposal to combat the agenda of the Executive branch to undermine our Second Amendment rights,” Duncan added. “I will also fight any legislative action that is taken to implement more gun control. Americans don’t want their Second Amendment freedoms restricted in any way and I will continue to fully support the right to bear arms for all law abiding citizens.”
