UPDATE-1: Fox News: Romney wins in Georgia

ATLANTA — Georgia voters on Tuesday picked former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president, an expected outcome in red state Georgia, Fox News reported.

According to the Secretary of State’s office, Romney held a 2-1 lead over Obama by about 8 p.m.

Georgia has been a consistent state for Republicans, and neither candidate campaigned heavily in the state. Bill Clinton is the last Democrat to win Georgia when he knocked off President Bush 1992 on his way to the White House.

In other early action, Fox News also projected Romney to win in South Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana. The news network predicted Obama would win in Vermont.

Several other states, including Virginia, Florida and Ohio remained too close to call.

Georgia has 16 electoral votes.
