- Obama: Vermont, Illinois, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, the District of Columbia, Maine (at least 3 of 4 electoral votes), Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New Hampshire
Several other states, including Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa, Nevada and Ohio remained too close to call.
According to Fox, Obama has a 162-157 lead in electoral votes.

— In Connecticut, Democrat Chris Murphy defeated Republican Linda McMahon to succeed Independent Joe Lieberman
— In Georgia, early returns showed Georgia voters favoring an amendment to the state constitution that would give a state commission the power to authorize public charter schools upon the request of local communities
