Jack Koon named deputy director of facilities for administration and support services

Jack Koon has been named Georgia Department of Corrections’ deputy director of facilities for administration and support services.

The promotion is effective Oct. 1. In this role, Koon will be responsible for the overall administrative functions of facility operations in Georgia.

“Jack has been committed to the Department’s mission of effectively managing offenders and creating opportunities for positive change,” Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens said in a news release. “He is an asset to the Department, and I look forward to his leadership in this new role.”

Koon has served as Warden at Coastal State Prison since 2009. He joined the Department in 1992 as a Counselor at Men’s State Prison and advanced to Senior Counselor in 1995.

In 1997, Koon was promoted to deputy warden of administration at Rivers State Prison and was named Southwest regional business manager in 1999. He became superintendent of LaGrange Transitional Center in 2003 and was promoted to statewide coordinator for transitional/diversion centers in 2007.

In that position, he coordinated the opening of five new Transitional Centers.
