Gingrich wins in Georgia

ATLANTA — Newt Gingrich, a former Georgia congressman, won Tuesday’s GOP primary in Georgia, Fox News and other outlets reported.

With 61 percent of precincts reporting, Gingrich picked up 49.2 percent of the vote, according to Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s office. With 22.4 percent of the vote, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney edged out former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania for second place; Santorum received 21.6 percent of the vote.

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas rounded out the field, picking up 6 percent of the ballots cast.

In other races, Santorum appeared to win in Oklahoma while Romney appeared to win in Massachusetts, Virginia and Vermont, Fox News reported. Santorum was also leading Romney in Tennessee, but Fox News said the race was too close to call.

Ohio also remained too close to call, according to published reports.
