State’s unemployment rate remains at 10.2 percent

ATLANTA — Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in August rose to its highest level in six months — 10.2 percent, according to state officials.
 
The tops the 10.1 percent rate in July and is the same as August 2010.
 
“I'm encouraged that we're seeing an increase in manufacturing, which is very important to the health of our state's economy,” State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a news release. “Despite a drop in the number of manufacturing jobs from July to August, Georgia has gained 2,400 manufacturing jobs in the last twelve months.”
 
Meanwhile, in Washington, Congress needs to offer up “positive solutions” to help facilitate job creation, a Georgia congressman said.
 
“More than ten percent of Georgia's citizens are out of work, and both families and job creators are looking for leaders to step up to the plate with positive solutions to get this economy moving again,” U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., said in a news release.
 
“House Republicans have championed a number of measures that would do just this by reducing unnecessary regulations, maximizing domestic energy production, and paying down America's unsustainable debt,” Price contends. “Unfortunately, the Senate under Democrat-control refuses to take action and continues to simply repackage previously failed policies. Our Democrat colleagues ought to stop the political theatrics and join House Republicans in our efforts to get America on a path toward growth and prosperity.”
