According to a statement posted to the Oconee County Sheriff's Facebook page:

On August 11, 2011, at around 3:00PM, deputies stopped a small truck driven by Billy Joe Shealy, Jr., age 22, of Price Mill Road in Bishop. The stop took place in the Oconee Plaza (Bell's) shopping center at Butler's Crossing. Subsequent investigation lead to the discovery of the components of a methamphetamine lab being transported in the vehicle as well as some suspected stolen property. Units from Oconee County Fire & Rescue as well as the Athens-Clarke County Fire & Emergency Services responded to the scene to assist with hazardous materials found in the truck. National EMS also staged an ambulance on scene.

Acting on information gathered in the initial stop, deputies checked several other locations. A methamphetamine lab was discovered in an auto shop just across the county line on Highway 53 in Barrow County. Deputies of the Barrow County Sheriff's Office were actively involved in this discovery and took charge of that scene. Also located at that scene was Billy Joe Shealy, Sr., who was taken into custody on active warrants out of Hall County as well as an active warrant from Alabama. At least one other person was arrested on scene. Items identified as being taken in an Oconee County burglary were also located there as well as items believed to have been taken in other thefts. Investigators are still processing and cataloging evidence.

Authorities said additional information is pending.

Because of the obvious dangers associated with transporting volatile chemicals, rolling meth labs have troubled authorities nationwide for years. Makers of meth generally opt to go with the mobile labs to avoid detection by authorities.
