Hall: ‘I deeply regret that I did not do more to prevent’ cheating

ATLANTA — Progress over the past decade at public schools in Atlanta “is real and dramatic,” former Superintendent Beverly Hall wrote in an-op ed, but the embattled ex-schools chief apologized for not doing more to “prevent it.”

“There is no excuse for cheating, and I deeply regret that I did not do more to prevent it,” Hall wrote in the op-ed published in Education Week.

“Should I have anticipated cheating, based on dramatic gains in test scores? With hindsight, I wish I had,” Hall wrote. “But there was every reason to believe that our dramatic restructuring would produce dramatic results, as it has. And those results continue to be confirmed by tests that have been independently administered and completed under the tightest security.”
