Ga. reopens license plate contest

ATLANTA — Let’s try this again.

Following a voting snafu, state officials last week re-opened voting to choose the next license plate design.

The Georgia Department of Revenue last week announced the three finalists. However, some voteres were confused whether “In God We Trust” would appear on some of the license plates, but not others, published reports indicate.

The motto is an option if motorists agree to pay an additional $1. It would replace the county on the license plate.

More than 500 design entries were submitted by the public. A panel of Georgia college and university art professors helped narrow the entries to eight semifinalists.

The new license plates will be “flat,” and residents can choose to order by mail instead of having to go to the DMV, officials said.

Voting ends at 3 p.m. on Aug. 8. For more information or to see the finalists, visit https://etax.dor.ga.gov/.
