Gwinnett approves mid-year budget fix

Gwinnett County commissioners this week approved a revised fiscal year 2011 budget, one that includes a 3.4 percent reduction in the operating budget.

Commissioners agreed to reduce the county’s operating budget from $978 million to $945 million. Concurrently, the officials agreed to increase the capital budget $256 million — or 75.8 percent.

“Our actions to date have greatly improved our financial position for 2011 and 2012,” Board Chairman Charlotte Nash said in a statement. “We have to keep working to carefully manage expenses and revenues or we will fall below a two-month reserve by mid-2013.”
