Former state representative pleads guilty to income tax evasion

A former state representative pleaded guilty to two counts of Income Tax Evasion, the state’s attorney general said.

Mary Jeanette Jamieson failed to file state income tax returns for the years of 2006 and 2007. An investigation by the Georgia Department of Revenue revealed that she should have paid over $8,000.00 in state income taxes for those two years.

Jamieson was sentenced by Judge Michael Johnson in Fulton County Superior Court to 24 months probation and restitution in the amount of $15,426.72, payable within 60 days. Additionally, she must file 2006 and 2007 income tax returns and, while on probation, file income tax returns if required by law to do so and pay all taxes owed in a timely manner.

Jamieson is prohibited from preparing income tax returns for others while on probation.

Assistant Attorney General Greg Lohmeier prosecuted Jamieson on behalf of the State of Georgia. The case was investigated by Carter Leverette of the Georgia Department of Revenue and Brian Whidby of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
