ATLANTA – So, what is Atlanta’s favorite dog?
According to a new American Kennel Club ranking of Atlanta’s top dogs, it’s Labrador Retriever.
“Atlanta’s love of large dogs may be changing,” AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson said in a news release. “While Atlanta’s top five breeds have remained constant over the past two years, the Yorkshire Terrier did manage to edge out the Boxer for Atlanta’s forth spot in 2010.”
The complete list:
- Labrador Retriever
- Golden Retriever
- German Shepherd
- Yorkshire Terrier
The list is based on AKC-registered purebreds.
Nationwide, the Labrador Retriever is the most popular purebred dog, followed by the German Shepherd and the Yorkshire Terrier. The Beagle and the Golden Retriever round out the top five most popular purebreds nationwide.
The bulldog, which was No. 21 last year, came in at No. 6 this year. The French bulldog took home honors for the breed making the biggest jump: from No. 71 last year to No. 21 this year.
