Ga. trooper killed during traffic stop

ATLANTA — A Georgia State Patrol trooper was killed following a chase in Northwest Atlanta, WSB-AM reported.

According to published reports, Trooper Chadwick LeCroy attempted to stop a 2007 Mazda with a broken taillight near Bolton Road and James Jackson Parkway. Instead of pulling over, the driver fled; LeCroy pursued, according to a report on ajc.com.

The suspect crashed soon after fleeing, and the driver shot LeCroy twice in the face as he approached the Mazda, The Associated Press reported. The suspect then fled in LeCroy’s patrol car before ditching the vehicle and running off on foot.

The suspect was arrested, but his name has not yet been released.

LeCroy, of Marietta, is survived by a wife and two children, according to WXIA-TV/11Alive.
