Price elected to Ways and Means committee

U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., was picked to serve on the powerful House Committee on Ways and Means during the upcoming 112th Congress.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a member of this committee as we work to address our nation’s most pressing challenges,” Price said in a news release.

“House Republicans face no small task in trying to tear down barriers to job creation, repeal and replace ObamaCare, reform the tax code, and tackle the huge issue of entitlement reform,” Price added. “The Committee on Ways and Means will be front and center in solving these problems facing everyday Americans. I look forward to working with fellow committee members on common sense policies that will keep America dynamic and competitive in the years to come.”

Generally considered one of the more powerful committees, the group’s jurisdiction includes writing the nation’s tax laws and handling measures related to trade, welfare, Social Security and Medicare.

“I look forward to working with Tom Price on the Committee on Ways and Means,” Chairman-elect Dave Camp said in a news release. “Tom brings to our committee both health care expertise as a physician and a true passion for tax reform that will make our economy more competitive. He will be an invaluable asset as House Republicans seek to promote job creation and get federal spending under control.”
