Police uncover massive meth lab in Norcross

Gwinnett County authorities on Monday shut down a suspected methamphetamine lab in a Norcross house and uncovered 933 pounds of the drug valued at $44.6 million.

“This is believed to be one of the largest methamphetamine confiscations in the United States,” Gwinnett County Police said in a statement. According to authorities, the house was being used solely as a lab for making meth.

Police executed a search warrant at 3355 Newbury Rd. after receiving information that people were producing methamphetamine at the house. Investigators recovered “crystal meth and liquid methamphetamine oil,” according to investigators.

Police charged a 22-year-old Weslaco, Texas, man with trafficking in methamphetamine.

“Investigators are following up on several leads as to who is responsible for the production of meth from this home,” police said. “Additional details on this investigation and how the probable cause was developed will not be released as it may compromise this ongoing investigation if released.”

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the Norcross Police Department and Gwinnett County Fire/HAZMAT helped in the investigation.
