Nahmias appears headed to victory

ATLANTA – Georgia Supreme Court Justice David Nahmias appeared headed toward re-election on Tuesday.

With 94 percent of precincts reporting, Nahmias received 67.7 percent of the vote to Tammy Lynn Adkins’ 32.3 percent of the vote, according to the Secretary of State’s office. Nahmias, a former federal prosecutor in Atlanta, was appointed to the Supreme Court in August 2009. Adkins is a family attorney in Lawrenceville.

On Nov. 2, Nahmias topped the field of three and picked up 48.2 percent of the vote. Adkins came in second with 35.2 percent. However, in Georgia, a candidate needs a majority of the vote – “50 percent plus one” – to avoid a runoff.

In another statewide runoff, Chris McFadden appeared to defeat Antoinette “Toni” Davis to serve on the state Appeals Court. With 94 percent of precincts reporting, McFadden had 62.8 percent of ballots cast to Davis’ 37.2 percent.

On Nov. 2, Davis led a crowded field with 25.5 percent of the vote; McFadden came in second with 22.6 percent of the vote.
