Federal judge pleads to drug charges

ATLANTA – A federal judge on Friday admitted to possessing and using cocaine, marijuana, and Roxycodone and giving money to a convicted felon to purchase cocaine, the FBI said.

Former Senior U.S. District Judge Jack T. Camp Jr., 67, will be sentenced on March 4 after he pleaded guilty to one count of conversion of government property and two counts of unlawful possession of controlled substances, the FBI said.

Federal authorities arrested Camp Oct. 1 after the former judge tried to purchase drugs from an undercover FBI agent. Camp, who served in the Northern District of Georgia, which includes Metro Atlanta, also admitted that he unlawfully gave a woman – identified as an exotic dancer in numerous published reports – a U.S. District Court laptop computer for her personal use.

Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas J. Hogan, who serves in the District of Columbia handled Friday’s plea. It was not immediately clear how Camp’s admission would affect any decisions he made while on the bench.

The FBI Atlanta’s Public Corruption Squad handled the case. The GBI assisted in the investigation.
